Sing Praises to the Lord

Sing praises to the LORD, which dwelleth in Zion; declare among the peoples his doings. ~Psalm 9:11 "The heavenly spirit of praise is gloriously contagious, and he that has it is never content unless he can excite all who surround him to unite in his sweet employ. Singing and preaching, as means of glorifying God, are here joined together, and it is remarkable that, connected with all revivals of gospel ministry, there has been a sudden outburst of the spirit of song." ~Spurgeon on the Psalms

God's Word Never Changes

Romans 1:18-21 "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened." Romans 1: 26-28 "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of

It's May

Today is May 1. The month of April did have many showers; so let's see if it will bring a lot of May flowers! 'Tis Merry In Greenwood ~Walter Scott 'Tis merry in greenwood-thus runs the old lay,- In the gladsome month of lively May, When the wild birds' song on stem and spray Invites to forest bower; Then rears the ash his airy crest, Then shines the birch in silver vest, And the beech in glistening leaves is drest, And dark between shows the oak's proud breast, Like a chieftain's frowning tower; Though a thousand branches join their screen, Yet the broken sunbeams glance between, And tip the leaves with lighter green, With brighter tints the flowers; Dull is the heart that loves not then The deep recess of the wildwood glen, Where roe and red-deer find sheltering den, When the sun is in his power.

Easter Week - Friday

"And He came out and proceeded as was His custom to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him. When He arrived at the place, He said to them, 'Pray that you may not enter into temptation.' And He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and began to pray, saying, 'Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.' ~Luke 22:39-42 "Now Judas also, who was betraying Him, knew the place, for Jesus had often met there with His disciples. Judas then, having received the Roman cohort and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons. So Jesus, knowing all the things that were coming upon Him, went forth and said to them, 'Whom do you seek?' They answered Him, 'Jesus the Nazarene.' He said to them, 'I am He.' And Judas also, who was betraying Him, was standing with them." "So the Roman cohort and the

Easter Week-Thursday

"And He began to speak to them in parables." Jesus had many things to teach the disciples about His death, burial and resurrection. And the Kingdom of God. "But take heed; behold, I have told you everything in advance." "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come." ~Mark 13:23, 31-33 "But these things I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them. These things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you." "I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you wh

Easter Week-Wednesday

"Then one of the twelve, Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, 'What are you willing to give me to betray Him to you?' And they weighed out thirty pieces of silver to him. From then on he began looking for a good opportunity to betray Jesus." ~Matthew 26:14-16 "Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went off to the chief priests in order to betray Him to them. They were glad when they heard this, and promised to give him money. And he began seeking how to betray Him at an opportune time." ~Mark 14:10-11 "Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching. The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people. And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve. And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he might betray Him to them. They were glad and agreed to give him

Easter Week-Tuesday

"And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves."  "And He began to teach and say to them, 'Is it not written, 'MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER FOR ALL THE NATIONS?'' But you have made it a ROBBERS' DEN." "And He was teaching daily in the temple; but the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people were trying to destroy Him, and they could not find anything that they might do, for all the people were hanging on to every word He said." Matthew 21: 12 Mark 11:17 Luke 19:47 &48

Easter Week-Monday

"Now when Jesus was in Bethany, at the home of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume, and she poured it on His head as He reclined at the table. But the disciples were indignant when they saw this, and said, 'Why this waste? For this perfume might have been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor.' But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, 'Why do you bother the woman? For she has done a good deed to Me. For you always have the poor with you; but you do not always have Me. For when she poured this perfume on My body, she did it to prepare Me for burial. Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her." Matthew 26:6-13

Easter Week-Sunday

"On the next day the large crowd who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, 'Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.'" John 12:12-13

Southern Winter

Another cold day here in the South. 12 degrees this morning at 9:00! It has been bitterly cold all week. We have seen some ice and a few flurries, but nothing substantial, at least here at the house. Icy trees have caused havoc for roads and power outages all around north Georgia. I am just so thankful we have heat and electricity! The forecast for the weekend is an accumulation of some snow. I guess we will have to wait and see!

God is Sovereign Over All

"Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, For wisdom and power belong to Him. It is He who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings; He gives wisdom to wise men and knowledge to men of understanding. It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells in Him." ~Daniel 2:20-22

Baby, It's Cold Outside

Woke up this morning to 9 degrees outside! Now that is cold, especially for the South! Thankfully, I can stay in the house all day and do not have to venture out for anything. Today would have been Elvis Presley's 80th birthday, so there are Elvis movies on TCM all day. So, guess what I will be doing today?! Good thing I had not planned to go anywhere!!

A New Year Begins

Image
2015.  Last year was full of momentous events in my family's life: Moriah graduated from high school bringing our homeschooling days to a close; Hannah and Connor married in July, adding a new member to the family; Emma Kate Parker was born in September, adding yet another member to our family. This year has the potential for more momentous events. Leah and Blake are expecting their first child in July! And they are planning to build a house before then!
